Company Overview
Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District provides advanced life support treatment/transport and fire suppression for the 142 square miles of Lehigh Acres from five stations. The District has evolved into a highly sophisticated public safety rescue system which has saved hundreds of lives and reduced the severity of countless injuries and illnesses, as well as defended and preserved many properties.

The Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District strives to lead the Nation in excellence of service as superior fire and rescue first responders.
The District’s vision is to be achieved through deliberate planning, adaptability and the courage to embrace challenges and opportunities.
Core Services
Fire Suppression includes residential, commercial, automobile, and urban/wildland interface fires. Firefighters practice fast attack procedures in order to minimize risk to life, property, the environment and financial loss. Once a fire has been extinguished, thorough salvage operations are conducted to preserve property, the environment and return structures to a habitable condition as quickly as possible.
Emergency Medical Services are provided twenty-four hours a day by advanced life support personnel. District paramedics, operating state of the art medical equipment, respond to most medical emergencies. Requests for medical aid constitute the majority of calls answered by the District.
Life Safety Management is responsible for review of building plans to meet current state fire codes, life safety inspections, public education, and fire scene investigations. The relatively small number of structure fires fought annually in Lehigh Acres is an indication of the Life Safety Management division’s success.
Training of District personnel is conducted in accordance with state and federal standards. Firefighters and paramedics train in techniques and technological advances, and engage in continuing education. To control costs, training is conducted in-house whenever possible or through multi-district training with other fire districts in Lee County.
Company History
The District was established in 1963 with volunteers and a single fire engine stationed under a canopy on Homestead Road. After providing volunteer firefighting services for 13 years, the District began hiring Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to operate one ambulance in 1976, which was funded through community support. In 1981, the District realized Advanced Life Support (ALS) was essential and added paramedic services. As a result, the name was changed to Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District, which is one of only two ALS transport services in Lee County. Firefighting and ALS services are responsible for preserving life and property in an area of 142 square miles with a population of 100,000+ citizens.
